Servizi
Facilitated Access for People with Disabilities
Accessibility in cultural heritage sites is a commitment undertaken by the Directorate of the Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica, which has developed a series of projects aimed at overcoming architectural barriers.
For the Park’s Directorate, efforts to ensure full or partial accessibility have focused primarily on the Ostia Antica excavation area, through the creation of routes designed for visitors with mobility difficulties or those using a wheelchair.
From the ticket office, the road is fully wheelchair accessible up to the Ostiense Museum. Along the way, before reaching the Museum (which is equipped with an access ramp), it is also possible to visit the Piazzale delle Corporazioni, located in front of the Theatre.
Visitors with reduced mobility are allowed to enter with their own vehicle—provided it has the appropriate permit—up to the internal parking area of the site.
From the internal parking area, a route begins that runs along the Tiber River, enters Via dei Misuratori del Grano, and leads to the Capitolium, near the House of Diana.
Toilets
Accessible restroom facilities are available.
Cafeteria
The Cafè degli Scavi is open inside the Ostia Antica Archaeological Area.
Rules of conduct
The route within the archaeological area may appear bumpy. Comfortable clothing and shoes are therefore recommended.
Eating meals and picnics are prohibited inside the archaeological area; the Caffetteria degli Scavi is available, as well as snack and hot and cold drink dispensers.
Dogs are allowed, on a leash for the duration of the visit inside the archaeological area.
Due to its proximity to Fiumicino airport, the archaeological area of Ostia Antica falls within the area of no-drone zone: the use of drones of any kind, even for very low altitude flights, is prohibited.
